MDCLS Description
The MDCLS Digital Camera Level Sensors are compact
units with integrated optics and signal processor for precise
measurement of the molten liquid level in Launders, Head Boxes, and
Casters in the Aluminium and Non-Ferrous industry.
A focused Class II red laser sport is illuminated on the liquid surface
and the image distance is determined by the internal CCD camera. LEDs
clearly indicate when the object is at centre of measuring range or at
limit of measuring.
Installation software is provided for connection to a PC for display of
measured values and programming the device. Measurement of data is via
both RS232 (RS422 available) and 4-20mA analogue output at a measuring
frequency of 1000 measurements per second.
The MDCLS Digital Camera Level Sensor Unit is housed for protection in a
secondary robust stainless enclosure to give total protection as well as
being provided with an Air Inlet venting as Air Purge out of a
protective nozzle. This also enables replacement of the camera without
disturbing the mounting configuration. The connection cable is also
encased in a stainless flexible conduit to protect it from hot metal
splash. A robust plug is provided with a mating socket for the laser to
be implemented on-site.
MDCLS Digital Camera Level Sensors are established to be the ideal
replacement for ultrasonic, radar or mechanical float level control as
non-contact sensors that need little maintenance and maintain constant
accuracy.
All MDCLS Digital Camera Level Sensor models are provided with a
programming functionality. Group Mode is recommended as running average
is calculated over a user specified number of measuring points before
outputting the calculated average value.
The average values are calculated at full measuring frequency and are
used for conveying the analogue signal. Several other software filters
are available to ensure robust measurement values are provided at all
times.
The MDCLS Digital Camera Level Sensors connect to 24VDC and are provided
with either an RS232 or RS422 output as well as a 4-20mA analogue
output. They measure the molten level to ±0.5mm over a 300mm working
range from 400mm clearance distance. Many other models are available
with greater clearances and measuring ranges.
Long-term reliable precise level control is essential on Launders and
Head Boxes as in use throughout the typical casting plant. With this in
mind, these Level Sensors incorporate digital alarms confirming level
measurement is being transmitted and the internal Sensor temperature is
within limits.
